[Choose #1] Buddies, I may have more dive time than anyone commenting here. I have been scuba diving since the 1950s (as a kid). I was a commercial diver in the 1960s and 1970s. And I am still a sport diver. We always put our masks on our foreheads. No dive Nazis

[Choose #2] I take mine completely off and have a strap that I clip it into so I don’t loose it, I used to use my chest strap until I released it to take a deep breath and down they went. I got them back and the next time I was in my dive shop I bought a strap!

[Choose #5] I teach divers not to, only because it could come off in a big wave. Plus it looks cooler when it’s on backwards.

[Choose #2] lol i had to buy my instr.2 cs of beer i didn’t even like cause i kept puttin my mask up, u think once is e-nuff...but just out of habit .
[Choose #2] Easiest way to remove it temporarily. Too much of a hastle putting down aroungd your neck
[Choose #3] doesn’t matter
[Choose #5] Hard to break habit but I would think it was a diver in distress. Once I got the OK from them, I’d wanna sign back..."then put your mask down, dummy"
[Choose #4] as a inst. ,and leading many dive adventures i have seen many cases of diveres in distress ,you have to think about the divers limits,if you dont know them it can be a tell tale sign. so ask them and stick with the basics it will not let you down.
[Choose #4] I have seen a few divers lose expensive masks by putting them on their heads, especially when there is swell
[Choose #2] I’ve seen too many get knocked off!
[Choose #4] In the Northeast time is of the essence due to being offshore and currents. If you come up don’t signal ok and have your mask on your head we’re send a swimmer in.
[Choose #2] i was taught not to do it because of the "panicked diver" signal however i do not panic when i see someone with a mask on their forhead, i do look at them to make sure there is no problem but i have not yet seen a panicked diver with his mask like it
[Choose #2] I look at it as a possible sign of trouble not a definite sign but some people take it a little too far with the diver diver are you ok?
[Choose #1] This originally came from early frogmen, who wouldn’t put their masks on their foreheads to eliminate possible reflections back at those they were invading.
[Choose #2] Best to just put mask on before rolling off boat, and keep it on until safely back in boat. Dive’s not over just because you are on the surface.
[Choose #3] A FRICKEN WIVES TALE IF EVER I HEARD ONEAND I’VE HEARD QUITE A FEW !-IF MY MASK FALLS OFF MY HEAD WHILE IT IS ON BACKWARD’S THEN PLEASE LET ME!- WORRY ABOUT IT !
[Choose #2] Just a habit for me. But as many said in the forum, As a rescue diver, I weigh all the factors and not just a mask on the forehead. I do the mask on forehead all the time.
[Choose #5] I was taught it’s the last thing to do before you pass out.
[Choose #4] OW instructor stressed not to do this.
[Choose #5] Put the mask around your neck where it belongs - one your forehead and flapping your arms in the water - you need help. Or alternative, put the mask on backwards on our head
[Choose #2] I know" PADI teaches as a distress signal" but I look for other signs of trouble first

[Choose #1] if somebody wants to put it on top of their head...it’s up to them. Don’t see how it’s a distress signal. Might be distressed after losing their mask ;)
[Choose #2] A distress’d diver is not going to keep thier mask very long anyways. I don’t consider a mask on the forehead a distressed diver until its gone.
[Choose #5] A mask belongs on your face. If you want to take it off in the water place it around your neck. The easiest way to loose a mask is to place it on your forehead.
[Choose #4] I was never taught this was a distress signal, Tec divers are now taught to wear it on the back of the head so you don’t lose it, still not a distress signal. I can’t see without it so it doesn’t come off.
[Choose #2] I usually keep it on the back of my head when in the water. People who are distressed will make it easier to identify
[Choose #4] if you cant keep your mask on your face for a couple minutes you should not be diving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
