It’s amazing that they bring them to the surface to do it.

From NORTHEAST: Makes you wonder when we go dive these u-boats they could still have live depth charges around them. I thought U-853 had them, didn’t they mention that to you in the dive briefing?

Good they bring them to the surface to keep from damaging the bottom.

The diver was still adjusting the ropes securing the load on the way up. I would have used some kind of net roping to ensure it doesn’t come loose and sink back down. Talk about performing a rapid ascent if that were to happen!

While diving In Palau you come across depth charges and unexploded shells quite often. One ship wreck had a hold stacked full of depth charges! I was wondering how safe/stable those things were after all these years?

In the late 80’s , while stationed in Italy, we dove Largo De Garda. The Italians dumped 1000’s of pounds of munitions into the Glacier fed lake so the German’s couldn’t get to it during WWII. Use to see live mortar shells and boxes of ammo scattered along the wall. TNT crates were a bit unnerving :P . My dive buddy at the time found the remains of a Hungarian pistol.
Enjoy
