Passing the TorchThere are proud moments for parents. This was one of them.

I think the only thing I regret about diving is the fact that I should have started sooner. I have gotten a lot of joy from my dive adventures. My 14 year old daughter has always been at home in the water. From infancy, she enjoyed baths, playing in any pool or mud puddle that was available and wanted to learn to dive like me.

Last week, we took a vacation together. I decided to spend quality time with my daughter while she still thinks I am cool enough to hang out with. While on vacation, she earned her Junior Open Water Certification. She scored the highest in her class for the written test and handled all of the in-water skills as if they were natural. Her buoyancy control will come with practice (as we all know).

When she left the water after her last certification dive, I was proud! I also look forward to many dives with her as my new partner and hope she thinks diving is cool enough that she will continue to hang out with me in order to keep diving. She already has a BC. Now we have to procure a wetsuit and regulator for her.

A great story. Mine is the opposite. My young adult son took up scuba, then talked my wife and me into lessons. We now all dive together. It can’t be beat for family fun.Congratulations.
