Description:

Scuba Instructor with over 700 dives. Always looking for dive buddies. Now teaching Underwater Criminal Investigations, Contaminated water diving, Dive Medic Tech. Spent 25 years as a Police Officer in NJ, and 32 years in the Army Reserves. Military Police, Armor, etc. Now I spend my time playing with Grandchildren, and teaching scuba.  Now I also spend a lot of time on divebuddy.com.  I made HSA Instructor in July, and look forward to doing more with the Wounded Warrior Program. I like talking to divers from around the would and aross America, I’m always open to new diving information.  The more information I get the better diver I become.  My most inspired situation was working with the Wounded  Warriors project, I want to do more.  That is why I did HSA instructor.  Can never have to many dive buddies or to many dives.

I understand how it is.  I don’t own this shop though so we are kinda stuck trying to make it work for the time being.  We are already very small in shop size and most of what we do is instruction so we are basically where you are.  You are right about the net.  It is killing scuba shops everywhere.   Best wishes and Merry Christmas.

I took the drysuit course and I really felt it was a waste of money, after about 5 dives we were able to drop the extra weight on zack and, we have not really have had any issues at all. he has close to about id say 30 dives dry. I have also found i was very disapointed with most of the padi courses exept the nitrox course and rescue diver course.  I see so many master divers with just not enough exp. but they paid the money for the course and the requirements are so minimal but they get the title. I am going to look at the tech side of diving to see if there is a improvement on course quailty. I am hopefully in feb going to take the adv nitrox course and see how that goes. I think (although i have not had the chance to take the course) dan has some good courses that i am interested.

my dive buddys son, started diveing dry just after his initial cert, He is so skinny 2o min in the water he was froze. We just spent 6 dives or so at plus 30 feet until he aquired the proper skills. One thing i think really helped is we overweighted him by about 10 lbs so small changes in air to the suit were not quite as dramatic. once he started getting it we dropped 5 lbs at a time until he was correctly weighted. I should also say his boy really has it together for 12 years old, pretty focused and mature during diveing sessions

Yeah, I can see how it would put a diver off. Hence why I said, that this instructor knew how to handle me. lol

A friend and I are busy helping a a friend at the moment with mask removal/clearing and we’d never do that to her. The approach we’re taking is lead by example. We’ll do it first, then her turn and so we’ll go on.

I have no issue with what she did. It was the only way my mask was going anywhere! She called it right. Sometimes an instructor just has to know what kind of student they have on their hands. (In my case, a very stubborn one). Shouting would never have worked with me, if anything, I would’ve walked away and found another instructor to finish with. She realised that I’m a "take action" kind of person. And that’s what she did. :)

I didn’t mind that she did it. It was the only way. And the minute she mounted me, I knew what was coming.  lol I guess also by mounting me she was saying, "don’t worry, I’ve got you."  It also taught me not to freak when my mask gets kicked off. Mask clearing is second nature now.
