To all those that have been, or are about to be, affected by Hurricane Irma, we wish you the best. Texas just got hit hard by Hurricane Harvey, now Irma is threatening our friends in Florida, the Leeward Islands and along the East Coast.

You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Please be safe!

Appreciate the thoughts, have been in prep mode for past couple of days, and checking in on friends farther south who are in for a hell of a storm (expecting Cat 2-ish here on latest track). I’m going to be riding it out at home, expecting some property damage and fending for ourselves for a short, figuring on a little break from diving.

Thanks for thinking of us in the, not so sunshine state...most of my friends, neighbors and dive buddies have fled to higher ground...hoping for the best...long process of recovery in store. Stay safe all!

Thanks Greg, we evacuated to Kissimmee last Thursday and just got power back here this afternoon. From reports from friends in Ft Myers we faired well with no outside visible damage to our home. But my friends from Key Largo to Key West did not. Sadly the keys are changed dramatically and much hope of diving or fishing is gone for a long time. Reports from CRF there building is okay but won’t have news about the coral farm for some time. When Irma went a little further south to northern Cuba it slowed and allowed dry air to move a bit further south over south Florida. That dry air started to chock Irma and another big gulp just as she hit Naples cut the bottom half of the storm. So when it hit Ft Myers the peak wind was 84 as compared to 142 in Naples with Big Pine key 120.

From Facebook reports our dive shop friends are all okay but the boats and stores are bad. I was just in Marathon a couple weeks ago and they were hit bad as well. They say about 10k out of 80k people stayed in the keys so the outcome from there is not known yet. They are going door to door to see who can be accounted for. Storm surge was 15ft in middle keys.

I’m sure the reefs will suffer greatly in the keys, they always do especially the ones at 20ft. But we are all alive and that is what is most important. Best to all, we did dodge a bigger bullet and will dive another day

Rode it out @ home, damage relatively light, with a lot of repair and clean-up work ahead. In better shape than most.

Thanks for your thoughts...we know how much you have been going through and we are all aware here in the Keys! I’m in the upper Keys, (Key Largo)...and we fared very well...but the Lower Keys is hurting!
