Harbor Reef is located off the coast of Aruba’s capital, Oranjestad, and is a favorite haunt for Parrotfish, Butterflyfish and Angelfish. Indeed, the diving here can offer more than enough to keep the underwater photographer busy.

The reef past Renaissance Island widens and improves again from here to the harbor exit of Oranjestad. Beyond that is the harbor reef, with clear waters and an abundance of extremely high soft corals along its slope. Sometimes it feels as if you are swimming in the woods with strange trees all around due to the abundance of sea fans. mangoman1 - 6/13/2016 5:08 PM I went scuba diving here on 6/11/2016. Average viz: 41-50ft/12-15m. Water temp: 81-85°F/27-29°C. We dove the southern portion of the reef this time as our DM, Canicio, wanted to find some rays and turtles for 1 of the diver’s 200th dive. We were along the cruise ship channel and saw very nice soft & hard corals, numerous green and spotted eels, and a spotted eagle ray. Canicio also found an octopus, and pointed out 4 lobster hiding under a coral head. He also later explained how to tell a male vs female lobster when no eggs are present - the female has an extra set of "swimmerets" for carrying her eggs. We dove with Aruba Mermaid Divers.

mangoman1 - 6/13/2016 4:41 PM I went scuba diving here on 6/9/2016. Average viz: 41-50ft/12-15m. Water temp: 76-80°F/24-27°C. Reef dive near Oranjestad, Aruba. DMs Albert & Canicio were great pointing out eels, lionfish, & more sea life. Both hard & soft corals were nice throughout dive. Numerous old anchors from when boats used to anchor outside of the harbour. We dove with Aruba Mermaid Divers.
