Lara from Albuquerque NM | Scuba Diver

I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Got my basic open water on August 26, 2012 at La Jolla Shores in San Diego, CA. I haven’t had an opportunity to dive since 2012 due to unrelated surgeries, and now living in one of the driest places in the U.S. Haven’t been able to summon up a lot of enthusiasm for the Blue Hole in NM. Also, buying a motorcycle and riding that all over the place cuts into dive time. Just sayin’.

It would be cool to start planning a dive vacation; it’d need to be novice-friendly, and possibly offer a refresher course since it’s been so long since I dived.

In the non-watery world (I know, hard to imagine such a place), I’m a gem and jewelry appraiser and broker, and a Graduate Gemologist.

Hi Lara, welcome to Desert Divers on Dive Buddy. I am not in charge of the Desert Divers group here in Albuquerque anymore but I guess I am still the organizer on Dive Buddy since I started it here. You are more than welcome to use it as your Dive Club in your profile here and I am happy to accept you. The more the merrier. It gives the New Mexico desert people some recognition as scuba divers. Is your husband a diver also? Have him join also.

p.s. Headed to Playa del Carmen area the 27th for a week of diving in that and the Cozumel areas. I have a 2 BR condo with just Joni and I going. It is a waste of space and cost but I can never get anyone else to go so........ We go somewhere at least once or twice a year.

LOL!! No, my husband isn’t a diver. I (occasionally) tease him gently because he can actually barely swim. I’m not the best person to teach him, being his spouse AND not being an instructor, so the scuba diving is strictly my thing. He’s done some snorkeling when we did a cruise to the western Caribbean that included a shore excursion where we swam with stingrays. He’s not into blowing bubbles.

Thanks for the invite—we’d love to take you up on it next year. This year, hubby just finished his first week at Sandia, so has no vacation time built up, and right now I’m in indentured servitude to my credit card company after buying a portable gemological laboratory (PortaLab). Business expense, but still. =P

I never learned to swim either but here I am a certified master diver. Without my gear I am somewhat timid to enter the water. I’ll snorkle anytime but just to get in the water and play, no! I’ll stay on the shore and drink for everyone in the water.

If you are interested in going on a trip next year we will be going somewhere. Look online at the Grand Luxxe Residency club and you can see what the accommodations are like at one of my resorts. Next year we may be going back to Los Cabos, Rocky Point south of Phoenix or maybe to Grand Cayman. In ’17 we will probably be going back to Belize. So anytime you want to join us just contact me through the Desert Divers Group website.
