Very true. In England we had a group of folks that got together once a month and practised skills. Rescue, swimming, trying out new gear, etc.

It is the safest, especially if your new gear has a problem, or if you haves a problem getting accustomed to it.

Perfectly okay to pool test scuba gear. Pool, spa, tub or shower.... okay maybe not the shower...
