I went scuba diving here on 7/14/2022. Average viz: 71-80ft/22-24m. Water temp: 71-75°F/22-24°C.
Dove this for AOW skills. It’s like diving an aquarium! Great viz and lots of fish.

Wonderful dive. Some dive students mucked up the water, but good times were had. It was colder above the water than it was in it.

Do you have to take the "Spring Lake Dive Authorization Course" to dive at this site?
wuzaracer - 6/09/2021 6:10 AM
Yes, The Spring Lake Dive Authorization Course is required. Plus one catch, we have volunteer tasks. After taking the DAC, we have to request a time to dive. Divers are given underwater maintenance tasks. Mainly plant and algae removal. Best $200 spent for local diving. I can dive all year round. You have to have all gear including scuba air tanks. No air fills at the lake.

Sounds like a good deal if you’re local, but a bad deal for more distant visitors who might dive it once per year.

Weeds pulled and algae fanned. Arch site cleaned up. Superb viz as it always is here. I saw a blue gill poop explosively.

Now that must have been a site to see. LOL

Interesting dive site ... loved the required class prior to the dives; history, geology, and diving, who could ask for more?

Three dives in two days. I visited the usual suspects: cream of wheat, ossified forest, ancient river bed, catfish hotel, arc site, and some unnamed sculptures/junk that was a little north of the training area. Lots of cleanup and zillions of fish. This is the best Texas fresh water dive.

There was so much silt after heavy coontail removal I’m not sure how much good I did but I tried to do some clean up at deep hole/arc site, catfish hotel, and cream of wheat. All I did was fan the silt off the sand. Hopefully it will drift down river. Wow was there plenty to see during general touring of deep hole, arc site, river bed, ossified forest, and areas I’m not sure of their name. Under the old dock I saw a school of 50 cichlids. Cool I had no idea they schooled before. There were zillions of bass, perch, and other fish. I also saw some turtles and an alligator gar. Vis was maybe 100 feet until we started stirring it up as part of maintenance efforts. This is an awesome dive site.

This is an amazing place to dive. The newly revised course is well worth the price. Taylor and Sam have put together a great new program.
