Dove Round Valley NJ - today - a little rain off and on today. Grey overcast skies - but very little wind. Round Valley is free diving until Memorial Day...

39 min dive - avg depth 32.53 feet with a max of 55 feet and minimum temperature of 42 degrees - viz was about 15 feet when we didn’t kick up the bottom. Very little to see today - a mushroom anchor with some clothesline attached, a fishing pole, lots of bottles and a boot.
Dive number 13 for the year - the shore did not look like it would have good viz so opted for freshwater instead.

Carl,

Saw your forum on Round Valley recreation Area. The website makes it seem like it is hard to access the water? Can you tell me more about this reservoir?

Chris -
It is very easy to get to the water with a large parking lot and places to picnic or barbecue - a few things about Round Valley. nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/round.html#scubaskin - it talks about the fees at the top of the page.
It is free before Memorial Day and after Labor day - you just need to check in and out at the ranger station when diving. No solo diving.

It is fresh water and the viz is generally 15 or more feet. If you kick up the silt it gets to be less.

There is a platform that you can use but it is in the diving area about 25 feet deep on normal year - this year the water is low maybe 15 feet from normal levels.

There is a town that was knocked down but the foundations are still there here is a short video of the site - youtu.be/_QodbCKdQig - it takes some work to get there but it is fun - about 50 or more feet deep.

A great place to dive if the ocean has been stirred up - Round Valley does not have any rivers feeding it which is good too - when it rains - the viz still stays clear.

I use it as a secondary spot and it is closer than Dutch for me - however there aren’t any attractions like you see at dutch - the lake does go to 160 feet - but I have not bothered to get below 60 feet.

If you want I can post next time we go - hope to give a few days to a week’s notice...

Dove Round Valley on 9/4. It was 70 degrees down to 28 feet, 62 degrees at 40 feet and 52 degrees at around 50 feet. Visibility was around 15-30 feet varying at different depths. Found various foundations of the old town. Video: youtube.com/watch?v=4B6YklGShZo
