I’m looking into buying a Mares Dragon/at BC. Does anyone have any experience using one of these? If so, would you recommend it? Does it have any drawbacks?

I had the Mares Dragon BC. It worked great for me. I like how the inflate area on the back wraps around the tank some to keep it stable. It’s a comfortable BC. I recently purchased a TUSA back inflate that has a replaceable bladder. I like the idea of being able to fix the bladder myself if something punctures it. The back inflate design also gives me more elbow room. The Mares Dragon also looks pretty cool.

You can’t go wrong buying anything with the Mares name on it. That being said, I have the Pegasus BCD which is fully back inflate. You have to ride it pretty soft at the surface so that the bladder doesn’t put you face down. Some divers like to be bobbing high in the water. I don’t find tat necessary and really like the freedom of the Pegasus. Also the Pegasus has a rigid back plate.
