I’m trying to find some one who has used the ear dryers I’ve seen in ads in the sports diver magazine. Do they really work? I always have water in my ears after diving and some times it takes days for it to go away. I use swimmers ear to try and dry it up, but want to know if the dryers work. Thanks, Shari

I seen a guy using one 2 years ago in the Caymans I thought he was on a satellite phone he told me to try it, bought one as soon as I got home works great everybody in the shop has either bought one or tries to use mine, in order for it to work you must use it after each dive no more ear aches love it!!!!

My instructor uses one and he swears by it. I would guess it would be good for someone who gets earaches/infections after diving.Like Tfish mentioned no more earaches.

I’ve used one in the past. They work ok, I guess. But I prefer to prevent the "water-in-the-ear" situation all together. I use Doc’s Ear Plugs. Been using them for a few years now. Doc’s makes both the vented and the non-vented kind. IMPORTANT..... You MUST use the VENTED ear plugs for scuba diving.

NEVER use the non-vented ones for diving.

Your Local Dive Shop may sell these and they are able to fit you properly for them.

I’ve actually been using Doc’s ear plugs since my pool work to get certified (2006). I had so much trouble with clearing my ears, my boyfriend got on line and found out about them. I’ve never been diving without them since! I’ve had trouble with my ears since I was little. My doctor said my ustation tube takes a 90 degree turn instead of a gradual curve. Some times I have more trouble ascending than descending. The ear plugs help, but I still tend to have water plugging up one or both ears after a dive. I think I’ll invest in one of the ear dryers and if it doesn’t work out, I can always sell it on ebay! Thanks for the response. Shari

Mix up a batch of ear drops.....50% rubbing alcohol, and 50% white vinegar. Leave it in the ear for a full 5 minutes. Some do it before a dive , some after. I read about this in Alert Diver a few years ago. Do you dive in fresh water or salt water? I have more problems when I dive in fresh water.
