Dove along the sides of the Comal River in Texas during the Trash Fest one year. Viz was pretty bad due to all the divers stirring it up. Plus the sides of the river, in some parts, are full of vegetation and muck on the bottom, making it difficult to see. Zero viz at times, yet we managed to pull up chunks of concrete with rebar. We used only our hands to feel around.
