My son and I dive together on our own boat, sometimes going up to 50 miles off shore. We carry plenty of fresh water on board, an EPIRB for the boat and we dive with a Nautilus GPS radio. Two back up radios and always someone on the boat at all times whom can operate the vessel. I leave a float plan with my contacts on shore, which is also the first contact person the Coast guard will contact to verify a issue if my EPIRB is activated. The way I see it you cannot every be too safe!!! We love diving but it is not worth a life for things you can plan for from studying other divers/boaters perils. Thanks for the story.
