I think you hit the nail on the head there.
When I went to Bonaire it was with a group of about 6 of us including one shop owner/instructor. Although there was a few other divers on the boat when we did our boat dives, there was enough of us to stick together and watch each others backs.
Being with divers you know and trust makes for a lot better experience. I won’t dive any other way because of the safety factor of knowing each others diving styles and experience levels.

From JoePagano:

Just returned from Bonaire. Stayed at Buddy Dive. Found the staff and boat crews both knowledgible and safety concious. They could not be more attentive both topside and below. Now, we did go with a group of 16 divers, of which 2 were current instructors, 1 divemaster and 1 instructor who was about 2 years behind in her active diving. The rest were divers of various levels and experience. I myself earned my Advanced OW cert while there.

So we had a great group, all able to buddy up with each other and that made the trip very pleasureable. Can’t wait to go back.
