Tympanoplatsy and diving

It’s been so long since I went through it that I had completely forgotten about it until my orientation when the medical questionairre was brought in. When I was 7 or so I had a ruptured ear drum due to fluid in my ear. I had a tympanoplasty to repair it and its been fine since. I go today at 1 to get checked for approval by an ENT. Does anyone have any helpful info that I can speak to the doctor about. I’ve been skydiving with it, skiing, Snorkeling, swimming to 9 and 12 foot. Never had a problem, just a little nervous.

If you’ve been skydiving and 12 foot deep swimming with no problems then yes, you should be fine. We have a local ENT who is also a SCUBA diver so we always refer people there since they do know exactly what we are doing.

If your ENT does have any questions or concerns they can call the Divers Alert Network (DAN) line at 1-919-684-2948 x222 Mon-Fri 8:30-5:00 EST.

You should be okay, my daughter had a tube in when she was young and later got certified.
