I’m working on DiveMaster this summer - already Rescue Diver certified with about 40 dives - all open water. I have dived at a couple of scuba parks that you may find interesting. My favorite is Clear Springs Scuba Park just outside of Terrell. I have also dived in Lake Travis a number of times, Aquarena Springs in San Marcos, and Athens Scuba Park in Athens. I almost went on a dive in Blue Lagoon which I understand is near Huntsville but had a conflict. I’d like to try it out sometime. Aquarena Springs is limited to people taking their scientific diving class or instructors who have gone through their course and have students. You might check on taking their course. The Athens Scuba park has lots of sunken objects (boats, planes, bus, etc) and is fairly clear but has a clay bottom with no life (fish or plants).
I’m busy in June except for the week of June 16-22. As a high school science teacher, my summer is open. I’m heading to Cozumel with singledivers.com on their June 23rd trip. Check it out if you are interested. In July, I am uncertain the impact my DiveMaster training will have on my availability.
Since I’m located in Austin, I like going on the Lake Travis cleanup in September. There are other cleanup activities which your local dive shop should be able to help you with. There is also a www.divearoundtexas.com site you will want to check out. They make it a competition. Dive a minimum of 12 times in at least four different dive locations to qualify for giveaways. It was a lot of fun to participate in this last year.
