I’m trying my best to make the move from TN to somewhere in the Keys, and will be taking a trip down with a friend next week for a few job interviews. While I’m there I would love to get some diving in. Basically just looking for a fellow diver with a boat who might let us join in and could give us the local perspective. We’re more than willing to pay for gas, beer, etc...

Also, if anyone has some tips on cheap lodging, lead on any jobs (sales mgr. for a hotel right now), or general advice on moving to the area please let me know.

Oh, both of us have logged 100+ dives, I’m actually working on my rescue cert. right, and I used to be ops. mgr. for a dive shop near Destin, so don’t have to worry about babysitting anyone.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Ahh..moving to the Keys! Lucky you. I don’t have any recommendations for you but I’ll see if I can get a few members in that area to respond to you. Take care, have fun and take pictures for Divebuddy!

I live in Key West now, great diving all year round. The job market right now is difficult though, because we’re in season. Season runs from roughly the end of December to mid-Spring, it’s when we get the most cruise ships in town. We get a lot of seasonal employees who bounce from market to market when they are in season to make the big bucks. If you want to move down here and make a permanent residence and work in the tourist industry, the summer is really oen of the better times to move down. It’s hot and muggy and you really have to love it here to stay.

As for the diving, if you make it down to Key West, shoot me a message and I’ll go dive with you. The best reef dives are at Looe Key (look up Looe Key Dive Resort, they have a dive center and a motel, it’s pretty cheap). In Key West, Captain’s Corner is the best deal around. They do all the wrecks and reefs, and for the best deal. Hotels in town are expensive as hell though. Bed and Breakfasts are generally the way to go. They are downtown, pretty clean and convenient.

If I missed anything shoot me a message and I’ll help out. It doesn’t let me see your post when I reply, so Id on’t know if I hit everything. Also shoot me a message if you want a dive buddy.

Well as far as diving in the keys go all the shops go to differnent places on different days but all in all they all go to the same places...I highly recommend Tildens which is in Marathon...Between Key Largo and Key West
