“This is the first chance many of these students get to see potential careers.
There are a lot of jobs out there. About 65 percent of all jobs require two-year
degrees and certifications. Not all jobs require college degrees.” said Todd
Bennington, Vice President of Operations, BorgWarner-Seneca Facility. He
added, “It’s all about the kids getting ready to put together their career plans.”
More than 50 organizations from small businesses to large corporations to
colleges had representatives on site at the Showcase to answer whatever
questions the students had.
Reviews are still coming in but those received have been very positive from
both the schools and the exhibitors. It was the first time for Anderson and
Pickens Counties to be included in the Showcase and as plans are being made
for the 2011 Showcase they are excited to be part of future Showcase event.
Jim Alexander, Director, Oconee County Economic Development Commission
said, “Ray Farley (Executive Director, Pickens Alliance) and I chatted about next year and they are very willing to be a part of the Showcase and Ray believes a two-day event would be supported by the Pickens County industrial folks.”
