TRASHFEST 2009

TrashFest is the nation’s oldest underwater cleanup campaign bringing together scuba divers from all over Texas, and the USA. To improve the quality of the Comal River in New Braunfels, Texas. The Comal River is the shortest river in the world. The 2.5-mile Comal River is one of the largest springs in Texas with 8 million gallons every hour. The water is pure, clear, and about 73 degrees year round, and attracts thousands of tubers and tourists to a bit of old Germany smack dab in the middle of the Texas Hill Country.
Since the first clean up in 1974, more than 9,500 volunteers have removed: 188,000 pounds of trash 300,000 cans and bottles 370,000 pop-tops and bottle caps 6,900 sunglasses and shoes
Team Requirements: Up to eight (8) people per team – (as many teams as we want to have) divers and non-divers are welcome. Team members may rotate between diving and grounds crew, as long as at least two members are out of the water at all times. All individual entrants will be assigned to a team if they do not already have one. Any team with less than eight people may be assigned more people as individuals register .
All divers MUST present C-Cards at registration.

Registration is on the day of the event, from 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM, at the Comal County Fairgrounds. Team entry fee is $50 per team and individual entry fee is $8 per person. All participants will be required to sign the Trashfest Waiver (available at registration)

Saturday, October 3, 2009 · 08:00 AM - 10:00 AM Registration at Comal County Fairgrounds Teams will be released for diving as soon as they have completed registration. No waiting around for a meeting. You can register any time between 8:00 and 10:00 AM. All team members must be present (with C-Cards) to register. ·
08:00 AM - 12:00 PM Diving in assigned areas of the Comal River ·
12:00 PM - 03:00 PM Diving in any part of the Comal River ·
03:00 PM All Trash Due at Check-In Site (Prince Solms Park) ·
05:00 PM - 08:00 PM Dinner followed by Awards and Door Prizes

badintexas - 10/01/2009 10:21 PM Also, if you have a spouse that wants to go along but doesn’t dive, bring them along! I don’t dive but it’s fun hanging out on shore watching everyone and if we’re brave enough, jumping in for a dip in our wetsuits! I think you may have to pay a bit extra if they want to eat at the BBQ dinner but it won’t be much.

badintexas - 10/01/2009 10:20 PM Greg asked me to email a few things for this weekend: 1. Do you need to borrow any gear from him? He can bring stuff for you to use but I’ll need to know exactly what so that we don’t have to pack everything in the car. It’ll be on a first come basis so let me know ASAP. 2. You will want a wetsuit. It’s going to be cold. 3. If you have a Divebuddy shirt, please remember to bring it atleast for the dinner/awards after diving. We’ll bring some Divebuddy pins that you can put on in case you don’t have a shirt. Please email me or Mike (DrMike) with any questions. Greg and I are heading out after he’s finished with work tomorrow around 4:30 and will be getting into New Braunfels late. If you want to, keep my cell number handy or programmed into your cell. sabrunette - 9/19/2009 7:15 PM I have been out of the water for TOO LONG! I’m so excited about getting wet again...is there anyone out there who would mind helping to re-aquaint me with a practice dive sometime next week or could direct me to a dive shop in the New Braunfels area where I can take a refresher course?? Monday the 28th or anytime that week would be great...I just moved to New Braunfels so I’m not familiar with the local stores.
