Miss Opportunity Wreck is a boat accessible salt water dive site, located in Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas, Virgin Islands (U.S.). This dive site has an average rating of 5.00 out of 5 from 1 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 91-100ft/28-30m. The average visibility is 71-80ft/22-24m.

The lat/lon needs to be correction.

The Miss Opportunity was a 390 foot WW II Navy Hospital Barge before being used as office space at Charlotte Amalie, at St Thomas. After is sank, the government contracted it to be filled with trash and towed out 5 miles into the ocean. Fortunately for us divers, the contractor was lazy and decided they could get away with a half mile. When the fraud was discovered, someone went to jail and most of the trash was cleaned up, leaving this amazing wreck dive with large openings. The barge lays 3/4 over with all the windows facing the sun, so lighting is not required (yet still useful) inside.

This page needs additional information to honor the historic site.

Dove this site off the Admiralty Dive Boat. This was a dive we did earlier but my camera failed to record it so i took this opportunity to go back today.

Found a barracuda sitting on the deck as we descended to the wreck. My camera failed so I didn’t get to record very much of this, my first wreck dive and my first tropical dive. The excess weight that I estimated via the PADI Buoyancy book was not a problem but should have been 7 lbs.

As far as the wreck, I was the only one to have a dive light. It was nice to have but by no means a requirement. There is plenty of light getting in through the ship windows.

My wife and I dove this one day and then I was to return later for photography.

Upon initial approach, a barracuda was on top of the bridge making an ideal first impression. DM Fishbutt toured us around the site and was able to find an old bottle that we thought was a near 200 year old rum bottle in perfect condition. It was later thought to be a brandy bottle but still a nice treasure (thanks to the anchor turning it up).
