Harry Wright/Whiting lake - Whiting NJ

Loading...
Harry Wright/Whiting lake is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located at Lake Road & Nature Way, Whiting, NJ 08759. The maximum depth is 11-15ft/3-5m. The average visibility is 11-15ft/3-5m.

Harry Wright is the biggest of the three lakes in the park, all in a chain, the other two were a nudist colony and a Boy Scout camp in the 30’s, I guess you know how that plan went wrong.

I’ve seen rescue classes done here, I’ve checked some gear in this lake too because it’s handy but not much to see. It’s a manmade lake so there are still stumps on the bottom, watch where you are going! The deepest spot (12’) is under the swim platform to the spillway at Lake Road. The north beach is shallow and a long swim to deep water, entry is best from the south side.

There are rest rooms on both sides of the lake but these are locked when the lifeguards leave except for the handicap Port-O-John on the south side.

During the summer there is a parking fee, $5 I believe. Life guards are on duty, let them know what you are up to. 6pm to sunset, no fee or guards. Park closes at sunset. Watch out for deer on Lake road!

During the summer there is sometimes a summer camp program on the south side during the day and you will not be allowed entry to that side.

Don’t plan a dive here on the 4th of July weekend, this is where the fireworks are.

Fire choppers have been known to dip their buckets here, don’t be the urban legend in the wetsuit found in the forest fire :)
