Cenote Chac Mool aka Choc Mool is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located in Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo, Mexico. This dive site has an average rating of 4.29 out of 5 from 35 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 41-50ft/12-15m. The average visibility is 91-100ft/28-30m.

The entrance to this cenote is just few meters after Puerto Aventuras.
There are 3 different water entrance to Chac-Mool system.
On the side entrance we have Little Brother cenote and Kukulkan cenote.
In the main entrance we can access directly at the Dome Room. Here a portion of the ceiling has collapsed under an air dome where the divers can surface and admire a lot of beautiful stalactites and some fossils. In Kukulkan side, in sunny days, we have an amazing light show.
Chac-Mool is one of the caverns which has halocline , means where salt and fresh water come together and creating visual effects.
With its big rooms and maximum depth of 12 meters/36 feet , is a perfect place for the novice cavern divers. Chac-Mool also offer penetration for cave divers, is in cave diving where we can find the largest underwater stalactite in the world.

Bathrooms: One at the cenote. Distance from gear up to water: just down the stairs at either entrance. Gear tables: many cement tables at both of the entrances along with plenty of parking place.
Cavern Dives - Chac-Mool: There are two water entries to Chac-Mool, both leading into the same rooms. The first room is relatively big with a lot of light entering from the opening. In the second room, a portion of the ceiling has collapsed under an air dome, in which divers can surface. This allows the diver to dive next to two levels of beautiful stalactites. Along the opening of the main entrance, there are some trunks and branches reaching into the water. Here you can experience a stunning laser light show on sunny days. Chac-Mool is one of the caverns where you will find a halocline. This is where salt and fresh water comes together creating fascinating visual effects. With its large rooms and maximum depth of 12m/45 ft , Chac Mool is perfect for everyone new in cavern diving.

Cavern Dives - Kukulkan: In this same system there is a different entrance to Cenote Kukulcan. You need to walk approximately 30m/100ft. As soon as you start the dive, a whole curtain of laser beams will take your breath away. Once you cross through this curtain you will be able to see it from a distance as you see the reflection of bubbles on the ceiling. If you look close into the walls you can find beautiful crystals and some fossils. The deepest area of the dive goes through a very thick halocline giving you the effect that the surface of the water is just above you. It is a great dive on sunny days.

Not for the inexperienced diver. Although they said you could always see a light source, that was not always the case.

This cave was very intimidating. Very beautiful, but not for the inexperienced. I probably went in too early for my certification level, but I had a instructor as my dive buddy.

Chac-Mool is an AWESOME dive site!! I highly recommend Chac-Mool for anyone who enjoys Cenote diving!! The underground Caverns are truly amazing!! There are still a few fossils in the rocks that can be clearly seen. To see the huge tree roots coming from the jungle and going into the fresh water is amazing! AWESOME SITE!!
