DAN is committed to improving diver safety, a commitment which is fostered by rigorous research. In a recent health survey, 25 participants (one in 200) reported having an implanted pacemaker device. These are active divers performing about 30 dives annually. DAN is conducting a research study about divers with an implanted pacemaker or defibrillators who are choosing to dive with or without medical clearance. DAN is looking for volunteers to participate in the "Diving Experience of Divers with Implanted Cardiac Devices" study, which consists of an online survey that takes approximately 10 minutes to complete, in addition to a possible follow-up interview if clarification is needed. DAN is striving to enhance available knowledge and resources on this subject through this investigative study ongoing through November 2013.If you are interested in participating or would like more information, please contact DAN Research at +1-919-684-2948 or via email at
research@dan.org. There is no compensation for participation. You can learn more about the project on DAN’s new dive and medical research-focused blog,
The Dive Lab.
