I’ve experience divers over the years stating if they only had an underwater camera for something they saw. If you’re not willing to fork out the big bucks for an underwater camera here’s something that actually works. Take a regular camera and put it in a zip lock sandwich bag. Make sure the seal is tight. Compression will press the bag against the lens and you can actually get some decent pictures. I would recommend practicing in a pool first.
I had a Dive Master actually put his cigarettes and matches in a zip lock bag and while we were cavern/cave diving he would look for an air pocket in the cave and light up. Never figured out that one. Original, however ridiculous in my book.
