Mansfield Dam or Windy Point (Lake Travis, TX)?

I’m trying to plan a trip for a buddy and I to go diving and take our families camping. Kids are between the ages of 6-13 and will need plenty to do to stay busy without driving the wives crazy while we squeeze in a couple of dives each day.

Which area is more "kid friendly" for a two-day stay, Mansfield Dam or Windy Point Park?

Thanks in advance.

With kids, for safety reasons, I would recommend Windy Point. Once in the camp area, you don’t have to worry about cars coming in and out as you would at Mansfield as it is a major boat launch area. Also, Lake Travis Scuba has relocated to Windy Point. They offer two tank boat dives out on the lake for $40.00. No, I don’t work for them but I have used them often and Robert Weiss, the owner, runs a top notch operation. You do have to provide your gear and tanks. This gives you the option to dive elsewhere on the lake and also from the shore at Windy Point. Windy Point also has air fills there on site.

I have to agree that Windy Point seems like a safe environment for kids but will add that there really aren’t any activities for them that I’m aware of to keep them busy other than swimming. Also you should be aware that the water depth drops off very steeply there immediately, the shoreline is basically a cliff, so swimmers should be strong swimmers or watched closely. I have never been to Mansfield Dam, so I can’t comment on it. Hope this helps. Happy Diving!
