Kona diving

I’m looking for dive information (dive ops, dive sites, do’s and dont’s) for a May trip to Kona, Hawaii. I’ve done a little research on it and found just a couple of ops who are working very hard at trashing each other which kind of makes me nervous. Most importantly I’m trying to avoid the "catle call" type of operation as I hate the practice (ran into it at my last Florida trip).

Would love to hear back from you guys. Thanks and happy diving!

I did a dive in Kona last year and it turned out bad. I did the Manta Ray dive at night. First of all they went out in one of those rubber dive boats, didn’t let us set up our own equiptment, and on and on. The main thing is check several places, there are a bunch that do this dive and are well organized. I wouldn’t go out with an outfit that doesn’t let me set up my own equiptment and let me place my equiptment where I can get to it myself, so I know it’s all there.

Hi Sandra,

In ’98 I dove Oahu it was a 3 tank dive which was very disappointing. It was suppose to be a 2 tank dive that included a reef and a wreck dive. It turned into 3 reef dives with very little life. It was not a cattle call type and the personnel was good. Sorry I cannot give you recommendations for Kona.
