 Diving North Carolina near Sneads Ferry

So... I’m new to North Carolina and really want to get in the water here... I’ve got all my gear and ready to go out but it seems that there is nothing close to shore to see. Everything is a long boat ride away. Does anyone in the area have any suggestions? I do have a 21 ft boat, but without knowing where to go and someone to go with... It makes it difficult. Thanks!
