Rocio del Mar

Has anyone been on the Rocio del Mar out of Mexico - diving the Sea of Cortez? I am just starting to explore this boat, but someone told me that the safety factor is very questionable - not on the boat, but getting there - seems you fly into Phoenix, then drive for 4 hours to get to where the boat is docked in Mexico - said that driving through AZ down to Mexico has become quite dangerous and also crossing the border with all your scuba equipment you will probably need to pay off the corrupt border guards - IS THIS THE CASE?? If so, sounds like Mexico will have to come off my list - thanks for any insight anyone out there can provide

Border guards are not the problem. The issue we are having at the borders is drug gang violence. Other than that when entering Mexico with your own vehicle you will need auto insurance from a Mexican insurance company. Coruption in Mexico hasn’t been an issue for tourists in years. Formerly there were issues when purchasing real estate in Mexico. We really can’t purchase, but you can enter into leases for up to 99 years.

Hi - we’ll probably just do the van that they can arrange - for $100.00 per person round trip from Phoenix right to the boat and back to Phoenix, it’s the way to go

I work down in Mexico just about every week and I second the comment about corruption for tourists hasn’t been a problem in a while. The biggest issue down there is getting caught up in the turf wars going on along the border. If they’re offering a van that can safely get you where you need to go then you should be fine, but anytime you’re traveling in another country you need to be careful.

With that being said, I’m signing off now for my trip to Cozumel. We depart from Houston at 9:30 this morning!

get ahold of n-depth scuba, they do alot of dives down in rocky point, they take you there and back as well as dive off a GOOD /REPUTABLE boat.

they are here in chandler az.and on db.....I myself do NOT do sea of cortez- to mucky...and not worth the hassel at the border coming back.

Hi All - our trip last year on the RDM was in a word "awesome" - very nice boat, crew, etc.

We did some terrific dives and the crew went out of their way to get us in the water on snorkel to swim with the whale sharks - no problem with the drive from Phoenix to the boat in Rocky Point - no problem at the border - the van service does this on a weekly basis - all in all a GREAT trip!!!!!!!
