I have made one from a 5" piece of 1/2" pvc with "T" pvc fittings on the ends. I drilled a hole through one of the "T" fittings and attached a clip. However, I really think that a finger reel would work best and the weight is minimal. I crimped a small fishing weight at 15’ on my line which works well for the safety stop.
