I am not far from you at all. i am in the Keller area. I have a ton of friends that dive and we are always looking for people to join us. Our next trip is actually to Cozumel which is only a 2 hr flight for us. We are going Feb 20th timeframe. We do liveaboards and dive trips but dont really dive locally since not anything great to see if you are use to the ocean.
Cozumel is the closest best blue water diving for you now. We have great rates from here and non stop flights. In the summer season we have charter flights with apple and funjet vacations which we do packages with hotel and transfers included. I have a wonderful dive shop we use also that gives you personalized diving and not the cattle boat experience.
Welcome to Texas by the way. I love the Destin area myself and was just there in October for a visit to the state park in PSN but we didnt dive. Not sure if you have dove any other places or not but I have been to lots and we have a great little group of people that just love to dive and are all good divers. I am going down with a friend on he 9th of Dec for 3 days in czm and then over to Playa on 12-12-12 and diving with the bull sharks at 12 noon! How cool is that! haha
I know a real good dive shop too if you want to hook up with one that does lots of trips and are real divers and not just once a year divers. I am orginally from south Texas and let me say, the water is nothing like it is in Destin!
