Wait to be sure you will continue diving after the OW class. Then decide how much diving you will do. Then determine if you will dive locally or only on vacation. Based on the answers to these questions, I recommend the following:
If you will only dive occasionally, and only on vacation, only buy a moderately priced regulator and maybe a cheap computer.
Rent everything else at your destination.
If you will dive often but only on vacations, maybe get a really good regulator and your own AL backplate and a good singles wing and invest in a better computer.
If you will dive a lot locally, you are best off to buy everything, including a couple tanks. I recommend if you can’t get it all at once, acquire items in this order:
Regulator set, backplate, single wing, reel, SMB, cutting tool(s), 2 steel tanks, second regulator, doubles wing, compass, computer, 2 more tanks (steel or aluminum), then only after the essentials, get into the toys like a camera.
