From sethness: I’m cruising around the boards, wishing a FAQ would tell me what accepting a "dive buddy request" means, in terms of opening the door to spam from Somedumbguy Marketing Weenie Dive Shop in West Neverheardofthere, or surprise visits from my "divebuddy" making an unscheduled my home in Thailand after midnight, with a suitcase in one hand and a couchsurfer coupon in the other.
What are the benefits and risks of saying "yes" to a "be my buddy??" request?

At the risk of being highly antisocial, I’ve denied 5 "Be my divebuddy?" requests in my first week as a DiveBuddy.com member, simply because I don’t know what the benefits and risks are. I do NOT want a flood of spam from some diveshop I will never, ever visit, nor do I want some guy from Lower Valleyrunoff, Minnesota (for example, not fer reelz) feeling he can show up on my Phuket porch with a bottle of air and a bottle of yuppie winecooler, the nest time he has a vacation/breaks up with his girlfriend/loses his job.

Am I offending people when I say "no"?

I accept request from people I have dove with, know from the business or there is a chance I will one day dive with. Not from people collecting dive buddies from everyone on the Browse list.

I have never gotten Spam from anyone on this board.

And just what is the street address for that Pucket porch and is there a hammock on it :)
