Yes indeed steels do seem to last a lot longer. After almost 30 years of diving I still see and have old steel tanks that were made before I was born.
The other thing to keep in mind at least with the 80’s is the the aluminum tank will also weigh @ 5 lbs more; which means you’ll be able to carry about 12 lbs less in total.
The big downside with the steel 80 is that some people have a problem with balance under water due to the shortness of the tank. This is one of the reasons that most people look at steel 100’s instead. The steel HP 100 is very comparable in both weight and height to the Al 80.
