Mustache or Not?

Do you shave your mustache for diving? If not, do you do anything special to ensure your mask seals tightly with no or minimal leakage?

I have been diving with and without a mustache, but that doesn’t say much as I am new to diving. If
I tighten my straps pretty tight it usually does the trick, but I pay for it at the end of the day.

I use to have a pornstache as my wife calls it. I dove with it for 25 years with very few problems. I would trim it a little more just below my nose to help with sealing. They make a mask seal that is silicone friendly that helps without degrading your mask.

I have a mustache and used to have problems with my cheap, entry-level mask. After switching to the ScubaPro Solo mask I rarely have any problems. The mask skirt is thinner and conforms to my face better. Every now and then I have problems, but certainly not on a regular basis. Also, I find it helps if my mustache is thicker and overlaps opposed to having a thinly trimmed mustache. I hope this helps.

I just shave a narrow seal strip below my nose and this seems to help. I also find it useful to ensure the rest of my beard is trimmed to outside where the mask seal hits (like on my cheeks). It does make a difference.
