Hi all,

I will be on Maui from 10/12 - 10/24 and plan on getting plenty of diving in.

I am looking to see if anyone would like to buddy up for some shore dives during this time.

I am a DM with over 200 dives, mostly cold water so very much looking forward to much less gear!

Wow, I can’t find anything showing any damage.

I think you are just a buzz kill.

the shore diving was decent but not as great as it could be as the recent storms and rain caused a bit of runoff to lessen the visibility. for instance, everyone raves about mala ramp being the best shore dive on the island, however, there is now a bit of silt sitting on the reef. the same for Honolua Bay where a stream was continuously dumping fresh water into the bay. most of the silt settled out before getting to the reef, but the water was quite brackish. overall i didn’t see a lot of sealife but i think that is mostly a matter of luck. green turtles are a guarantee but may be better to get to with just snorkeling as they hang pretty close to shore. the vis (60-70ft) at black rock was the best for shore diving while i was there. with that they have been doing night dives there as well which are cool with the cliff going into the water.

not sure where you are staying but i was diving with a guy who did his dive master with maui diving scuba center in lahaina so i bought a 10 card and rented my weights from them. the staff there is super friendly so i would give them a shot if you are up there. bonus is that there is a little brewery right behind the shop, so very convenient for the after dive beer. however, if you are into craft brew, hit up maui brewing. the site is beautiful and the beer is great.

i did a couple dives from a boat and went with B & B scuba out of kihei. great guys and were nice to my wife who was just snorkeling. the thing i really liked about them was that they were the first out to molokini in the morning so we completely missed the rush from the snorkel boats and even other divers. so i would also recommend them.

i hope that gives you a bit of info for your trip. hit me up if you have any specific questions.
