Information wanted on dive Thailand

I plan to dive in Thailand. Tao Island seems to be a good place to go, partially for the reason that it is easy to get to from Bangkok. Any comments and suggestions from this group? I heard that the west coast of Thailand is better for diving, but it seems it takes a little more effort to get there. Any other opinions?

Hi

Koh Tao is OK, but very touristy and overrun with dive operations.

When I dive Thailand, I head for the west coast as you suggest and it is just as easy to get to from Bangkok. Take the rain south or take a night bus.

I have dove several times with Sea Dragon out of Khoa Lak - http://www.seadragondivecenter.com/

Khoa Lak is north of Phuket

E-mail me if you need more detailed info - ed_arata@hotmail.com

If you like wreck diving - there is some in Thailand - but my favorite location are in the Philippines.

Hi ...

I too totally support Khao Lak .... i would recommend a live aboard trip to similian islands. I dived with liquid adventure on their 3 day / 3 night live aboard ( they are the only ones who were offering richlieu rock dive in the 3 day dive package )

you can check them out at http://www.liquid-adventure.com

As for reaching from bangkok .. you can get lots of overnight buses ( we flew directly into phuket from malaysia and from there khao lak was 100kms ).

Hope this helps

Thanks, all. I’m going to El Nido, the Philippines instead in February. Got all tickets.
