Have boat, need buddy! Thousand Oaks, CA

I got certified as a teenager, and in the past 20 years I’ve been diving about ten times, total, due to a bad habit of living far from the ocean. But I just recently moved to Moorpark, California, which is about an hour northwest of Los Angeles.

I have my own boat, though I’m not sure how good it would be to dive from, as it’s a bit hard to get into from the water. Would probably need a rubber raft or something to help, if we’re going to use it for diving. I’ve got all my own dive gear, I just need to find someone who can go diving with me.

For now, I just want to get some experience, and do some local shore dives. Eventually, I’ll be wanting to catch seafood for the dinner table.

If you’re interested, send me an email: eric@wadhome.org

Thanks!

What type of boat do you have and how many divers can she hold? If you have a swim ladder we can get back in. Do you have it slipped or would you need to launch each time? I looked into buying one of my own boats recently and concluded it was cheaper and less headache to use twenty something local dive boats for my off shore trips. But I’m down for shore dives any time. Mid week mornings, Sunday afternoons, and any night seems to work best for me these days. Will be in touch. I’m heading to Moorpark this weekend, as my brother lives there, along with several other divebuddies of mine. I’m sure we will dive soon.

Rich,

I put a photo of my boat in my profile, check it out.

It’s a 17’ bayliner mutiny, built in 1980, inboard-outboard, closed bow. It’s got six seats, but with dive gear, that would be way too crowded with that many people. Maybe two or three, four TOPS. It’s parked on the trailer next to my house, so I’d need to launch it each time; unless slips are cheap (I doubt it).

What I need right now, is to do a couple of easy shore dives. It’s been a long time since I’ve been out. I put all my gear on and swam around in the deep end of my pool, so my stuff works, but I need to get deeper than six feet. ;)

I’ve got some time tomorrow (Saturday, April 14th) afternoon and evening, if you’re interested. I’m concerned that the weather will be icky, though if you know of a sheltered place to get wet, even if it’s boring, then I’m up for it! Sundays are not an option for me, but I could do an occasional mid-week morning, depending on how work is going.

If you’re in Moorpark this weekend, give me a ring, and come check out my boat, if you like! 801-703-8438

Hey Eric! I’m in Reseda, not too far away... always looking for a reason to go diving! Missed last weekend and doing a Santa Barbara Island boat trip next Sunday... but if you want to go out on a shore dive in Redondo sometime this week (late afternoone/early evening) or on Saturday, I’m up for it. I’m still trying to find that (so far) elusive Pier 3 pilings.

If you can, come on that Santa Barbara dive this weekend? Leaves 1am on Sunday and back that evening.

Then you’ll have a shore dive AND a boat dive over the weekend.

Thanks for the invite!

Actually, I did some testing of my aging scuba gear this weekend, in my pool, and found a problem. It’s actually a rather severe problem; the bladder on my BCD is toast. I brought it in to the dive shop, and they said my BCD is just way too old. They also pointed out (correctly), that my regulators are also too old, they all need to be serviced, which would cost more than $200. Yep, I need a new BC, and I might as well get new regulators while I’m at it.

It’s going to take a payday or three until I’ll be able get my gear together, I’m afraid. sigh

Once I’m good to go, I’ll pop up here and send you a line, though.
