Hello Divers!

My name is LeslieAnn, and I am a new diver looking for a buddy in Oahu, Hawaii in May. I am currently in my open water certification class and will also be Nitrox certified before I arrive in Hawaii. I would love to dive local spots, that are not too difficult, with someone who doesn’t mind a new diver (I’m new! Ah!). I am a 23 year old nurse who loves to have fun, travel and meet new people to have great experiences and conversations with. I am available to dive Thursday May 3 and Friday May 4 and will be staying in Waikiki.

Thanks!

Hey LeslieAnn,

Don’t be discouraged if you don’t get a reply from anyone, as your window is fairly specific to location and dates. But there are a couple other options available to you. You can do a location specific member search on this site and e-mail divers directly to ask if they would be available. Not everyone checks the Forum board every day and your date is quickly approaching. But best of all I would look up dive shops in the area you are staying and simply sign up for a boat trip through them. They always have a Divemaster/guide who will dive with you. Plus they will typically pair you up with another single diver sure to be on the boat. Every time I’ve dove the Islands I have never had a problem getting paired up. It’s a great way to meet new people as well. If you were going to Maui or Kauai I could even recommend a dive shop. But I’m not as familiar with Ohau. I have noticed that 99% of the Divebuddy members seem to live on Ohau, so you chances look good. Have fun! I’m jealous.

Here’s a person who works for a dive shop in Oahu (Dive Oahu) I think as a dive master. Might want to shoot her a message. She could probably help you out. http://www.divebuddy.com/profile.aspx?MemID=15409

Thanks you guys for the advice! I will definitely be looking into contacting members directly in Oahu and dive boat trips! Trying to planning everything now because unfortunately I only have a few days in Hawaii.

Sharks cove on the north shore for a shore dive should be in your plans. It is perfect for novice divers and lots to see with a max depth of about 30’. I always see turtles, moray’s and schools of convict tangs plus many other fish. All the boat dives I’ve done are more for advanced with the best being the WWII Corsair that ran out of gas and landed in 107’ of water off the east coast of Oahu. Enjoy Hawaii!!!!
