Catalina Island, CA
- Travel Info: Catalina Express from Long Beach to Avalon.
- Time: Leaving with 6:15AM boat (arrive 1hr early to check-in), returning with 7:30PM.
- Long Beach Port: 320 Golden Shore, Long Beach, CA
Costs:
- Parking: $14 all-day parking at Long Beach Port, carpool for saving
- Boat: Catalina Express round trip $69.50. If you have a group of 3, you can buy Costco gift card, paying $80 for $100 credit. Do the math, buying 2 gift cards for 3 people, cost would be $57 each person. There’s also discount coupon available if you can’t get a group of 3. Reservation must be made over the phone in order to pay by Costco gift card or use discount coupon at cashier window.
- Gears: rental available in town, on the way, check online for more details.
- Tank: $14 onsite rental (cash only) or bring your own tank
- Refill: $7 / tank (cash only). We usually do 3 dives, or 4 if time allows.
- Lunch: delicious burger restaurant nearby, other restaurants available in town within walking distance, or pack your own lunch.
- Notes: I bring my own gears, including tank & weight, use a dolly to wheel my stuff from the harbor to the dive site. Catalina Express does not allow 4-wheel dolly onboard unless you can stand it up as a 2-wheel. From Avalon to the dive site, there is transportation service to transfer your gear for around $10 per diver but I personally don’t like them. They take too long and last time I almost missed my boat. I can make more reservation and take care of the costco gift card as soon as I have a group of 3 confirmed.
Currently confirmed: me, Phuong, and Said.
