Barbours - Loyalsock - Barbours PA

Loading...
Barbours - Loyalsock is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located in Barbours, PA. The maximum depth is 11-15ft/3-5m. The average visibility is 5-10ft/2-3m.

Further upstream, near the town of Barbours, PA the Loyalsock Creek flows against a hill to create a pool of about 15 to 20 ft deep. A large rock shelf stand above the water surface and steps down t the gravel bottom. Large slabs of rock have been torn from the cliff providing hiding places for the local trout. Although not as deep as Slabtown it is just as interesting for the geologist and biologist.

Take route 87 north to the Dunwoody Road and turn left. Follow the Dunwoody Road across the Loyalsock to Turkey Farm Road and turn left. Follow the Turkey Farm Road a short distance. As the road comes down the hill look over the bank until you see the large slab of rock. Pull off the road as far as you can and follow the path down to the rock. This is Pennsylvania wilderness so be careful on the path. In case of emergency you will have to go back across the bridge to get cell service.

Start your dive around the rock and move upstream along the cliff. At one section the cliff has three steps at about 5 ft, 10 ft and 15 ft. Take your dive light to look under and around the boulders for trout and bass. The eastern side of this section is sandy/slit and the western side in rock and gravel.
