Vaught’s Beach, is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located in CA 95245. The maximum depth is 26-30ft/8-9m. The average visibility is 11-15ft/3-5m.
Vaught’s beach is an artificial beach on the Mokelumne River ( pronounced mo call la me) that is the border between Amador and Calaveras counties. The water is cold 47 degrees f in March and 61 degrees f in June at a depth of 22 feet. Visibility is the best you can get for local foothill dives without going to Tahoe which is the primary reason I even dove here. You will see the ancient rock bed torn and mangled as the result of skiff dredging during the Gold Rush. The current is very light to the left front of the beach but stronger as you move upriver or down. I would suggest this for someone who lives in this area not for the diver who would have to drive hours to get there.
