Barge Detroiter is a boat accessible fresh water dive site, located in Port Clinton, OH. This dive site has an average rating of 3.00 out of 5 from 1 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 16-20ft/5-6m. The average visibility is 5-10ft/2-3m.



CAUTION: Wreck lies in close proximity to Camp Perry Firing Range impact area. Check for warnings/advisories before diving. Unexploded munitions may be present nearby and, if found, should not be disturbed.


The Detroiter is a 60 ft dredge barge that sank during a storm in the early 1980’s. It lies in about 20 feet of water approximately 3 miles off the mouth of the Portage River. A large anchor, coiled cable and part of the stack lie near the wreck.


Watch for heavy recreational boat traffic in the area.


There are no dive charters in this part of Lake Erie, if you are lucky you can find a fishing charter that will take you out on a slow day. Best bets are to bring your own or know someone who has a boat on the lake.
