Otter lake Michigan is a town on the edge of both Genessee and Lapeer county’s (it is half in Genesee and half in Lapeer). It was an old lumber mill many years ago and the lake is a very deep lake it goes to about 125 feet or so. The vis gets bad at around 65 feet or so. Before that you can see many days to around 40 feet or so. Not bad in freash water. Water that is that deep is usually concidered glacial water and it is cold. It can be around 80 on the surface but when you get to 60 feet it will be around 40 degrees or so. The thermalclines are pretty neat as you can see the difference in visability as you assend through them. There is an old Talk Tank (a pig cut in half and bolted to the floor) that sank as it rusted out. You will also find some very large timber that has been sunk also. There is a cost to dive there $5 but you get the chance to use the showers and the bathrooms etc. It is well worth the price. As you come into town the end of the street there is the a park. On the left is the camp ground and this is where it is all at. Just go straight out from the pier. You will find lines that have been set up to take you from one place to the next. A fun dive even if it is cold.

Got my certs there. Vis is about 6-10 feet (on good days). Some deep spots even thoug I haven’t been in them as of yet. Good area for shore diving next to the boat launch.
