The Um El-Faroud was at dry docks in grand harbor of malta for maintenance when on 03-Feb-1995 during the night an explosion occurred. Nine shipyard workers lost their lives, and the tankers suffered structural deflammation. Following an inspection, the ship was considered beyond repair, and after three years of arbitration, it was scuttled as an artificial reef. Then during a storm in the 2005-2006 winter season, the wreck broke in two; the bow and stern now sitting slightly adjacent instead of in-line. ship’s length is about 110-meters (360-feet), and at an average depth of 30-meters (100-feet).
