George Morley Wreck is a shore accessible fresh water dive site, located at Dempster/Greenwood St. Beach, Evanston, IL 60201. This dive site has an average rating of 4.00 out of 5 from 3 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 11-15ft/3-5m. The average visibility is 16-20ft/5-6m.



Resting in 10 to 16 feet of water is the Wreck of the George Morley, a wooden shipwreck that burned and sank in the 1800’s. Intact below the gunwales, the wreck is just 150 yards off shore and is marked by cans. Ask the beach office for directions to the wreck site.


There is a beach entrance fee. Flag and float, certification card required. Closes at 6:00 pm. The wreck is mostly exposed due to wave and current action.

I went scuba diving here on 9/23/2018. Average viz: 5-10ft/2-3m. Water temp: 71-75°F/22-24°C.
300 yards from beach shore 18 feet depth ship wreck.
