Black Rock (Sheraton) - Maui HI

Loading...
Black Rock (Sheraton) is a shore accessible salt water dive site, located in Maui, HI. This dive site has an average rating of 4.00 out of 5 from 30 scuba divers. The maximum depth is 61-70ft/19-21m. The average visibility is 51-60ft/16-18m.

Black Rock is on the site of the Sheraton Hotel. It’s unfortunate that there is so much development surrounding this point, but the dive is well worth it, nonetheless. You’ll need to park in the public garage, and hike with equipment-on-back down to the beach area.

Dolphin Lover: Located at the Northern most part of Kaanapali Beach at the Sheraton Maui. This dive has a very easy entry and exit. Depths are to 35 feet. Many species of fish frequent the area due to snorkelers feeding them all day long. There are turtles and many moray eel species. Occasionally one may spot an Eagle Ray passing by. This rock extends about 50 feet above the ocean and drops to depths of 35 feet. This may be considered like a shallow wall dive and the dive has much beauty. There is a small cave in the wall where the picture on the right was taken from inside. Occasionally a large turtle may be found sleeping in the cave. This is an excellent night dive for advanced as well as doing your first night dive. There are many eel that can be seen feeding at night. This is one of the popular shore dives from West Maui. Don’t miss this one.

Haven’t been since the Sheraton was renovated, but this was a great place to learn to dive and a nice beach-entry dive location.

I stayed at that Sheraton for almost a month and got to dive Black Rock several time. It is an awesome night dive. I had never seen so many huge turtles just sleeping and hanging out. Came across a couple of small shark too...a little startling in the dark. Excellent sight. Shore entry.

Pretty cool site! If you’re lucky, you can park for free at the bottom of the last parking garage on that road. There’s only about 20 stalls, but you can get one if you come early. Just go out of the parking lot and out to the left. Walk over to the bridge to the small beach. You can dive all the way around the Black Rock area and come out on the beach in front of the Sheraton and walk through the grounds out to the front main street.

Watch out for lots of snorkelers and people jumping off the Black Rock cliff out in front of the Sheraton though.
