Johnson’s Rock
Catalina Island, CA
Water Type: Salt
Entry Type: Other
Logged Dive 1105, This is as close to the Westend of Catalina as we can get with the wind coming off the Pacific. My first check is the anchor. I find the hook on the down slope of the island. The down slope is rock, gravel, and sand and drops off at a sharp dropping angle. I move the hook up the slope using my BC and set the hook in shallow water in the rocks. I dive the shallows into the island in less that 15 feet of depth. Lots of rocks, some fish, I find only shorts in the rocks, however, a night dive might bring out the larger, legal Bugs. I did have a legal in the works, however, he/she blew out the backdoor. The rocky area has some kelp that makes a good cover for night diving.
