The Albany Aquanauts SCUBA Club was formed in the 1970s. Our current membership consists of over 60 divers, ranging from newly-certified to those that started diving before C-cards were even issued. Whether you have a dive buddy or are looking for one, come join us. Our club facilitates a diverse array of activities, above and below the water, all year long.

Group dives extend from local waters to areas throughout New England and annual trips to tropical destinations. Some of the local dive sites include the Sacandaga Reservoir, Warner’s Lake, Lake Champlain and multiple locations along Lake George. Being situated in the Capital District, we are fortunate to be able to reach a variety of locations throughout the Northeast with only a few hours travel. The club dives the St. Lawrence (full of shipwrecks), Rockport Massachusetts (with its Atlantic Ocean marine life), and the Dutch Springs quarry in Pennsylvania (underwater amusement park). Our recent warm-water destinations have included Cozumel, Bonaire, Belize, and Curacao, to name a few. The Albany Aquanauts are also affiliated with the local dive shops and the New York State Diver’s Association (NYSDA). These groups extend our diving opportunities with the events that they promote.

When not underwater, we continue to host events for fun, for charity, and for education. For fun, we have white water rafting and kayaking trips, a picnic in July, and a holiday party in December. Charitable contributions and fundraisers have supported organizations like SUDS - Soldiers Undertaking Disabled Scuba (diving for injured war veterans) part of the wounded warrior project. The club has also supported DAN (medical aid and research for divers), Shark Research Institute, and other marine conservationists. Education is spread throughout the year’s calendar of events. Each spring we update our CPR/oxygen/first aid skills. We have interactive webinar presentations with DAN on a variety of topics. We periodically have guest speakers at meetings or presentations by celebrities in the diving community.

The Albany Aquanauts hold club meetings on the first Thursday of “most” months (February-June, August, October-November). We meet at 7:30pm at the Latham Fire Department, 226 Old Loudon Road (lower parking lot, left door). Check the calendar on this website to confirm meeting dates, times and location. Club membership dues are $20 for an individual or $30 for a family (members in the same household). Use the contact us page to request an application. Join us at a meeting and bring your application, dues, and copy of your C-card to become a welcome member of the Albany Aquanauts.
