The entire summer and fall I was out of the water recovering from a left ear problem that developed because of frequent business flying. Not diving... flying. Several ENT specialists and months later, I was ready to dive and headed back to Costa Rica during the winter holidays. I was psyched up. I planned 7 dives and was charged up to take as many photos as I could with my new camera. All my dive equipment was carefully packed for travel and ready so I could jump in first day to visit some prime...

Yah... It is several weeks later and two big snow storms past the holiday vacation and I still have a bit of the Costa Rican national attitude running in my blood. Also noticed that I have not posted in a long time. Costa Rica was well worth the trip - both for the vacation and for the diving. We stayed with family in a house and were not tied to rhythm and insanity of a resort. If I felt like sleeping in - I did. If I felt like getting up at 6AM and walking down the beach - I did. It drives me nuts to hear people say that. But in some ways that is what the year has been like up to now. Been to Florida more times than I can count since January and I have been able to dive only two days. Two dives in the National Aquarium in Baltimore and two at Dutch Springs in Bethlehem, PA during the DUI DOG Rally. At least I’ve got two specialty certs (Aquarium , and Dry Suit ) and maybe a busted eardrum from the last ascent during dry suit. Probably caused by reverse block from the rea...

So to all my new friends in Northeast Divebuddies: You may be used to it up there, but this is Maryland. It took 2 days to clear the road up the hill to the main street. The tractor blew its bucket controller hydraulics and we needed to wait for a local crew the get done clearing the main roads before they would do the local farms and houses. I want to be somewhere that snow doesn’t do this or I think a drysuit may be in the equipment crystal ball. Otherwise it will be April before I can get int...

On a recent trip to Australia, a helpful local DM told me that Aboriginal names are repeated to say "more" something. Well, you know, Wagga Wagga means "more Wagga". So what do you think this means??? My pirate name is: Iron Jack Kidd A pirate’s life isn’t easy; it takes a tough person. That’s okay with you, though, since you are a tough person. Even though you’re not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr! Get your own pirat...
